Federal Government Declares Public Holidays for Easter

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced Friday, April 21st, and Monday, April 24th, 2023, as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid-il-Fitr celebration. The declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, on behalf of the Federal Government.

Celebrating Ramadan’s Successful Completion:

In a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, Shuaib Belgore, the Minister congratulated all Muslims on the successful completion of Ramadan. Aregbesola urged them to imbibe and practice virtues such as kindness, love, tolerance, peace, self-denial, sacrifice, and good neighbourliness, as exemplified by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him).

Maintaining Spiritual Consciousness:

The Minister emphasized the importance of maintaining and improving upon the self-restraint, self-denial, sacrifice, and deep spiritual consciousness that accompanied the fasting period. He advised Muslims to become better people and true worshippers by retaining these virtues even after Ramadan.

Government’s Commitment to Peaceful Transition:

Aregbesola assured Nigerians that President Muhammadu Buhari remains fully committed to a peaceful transition of government following successful elections. The government’s dedication to providing security for the lives and property of every citizen and foreigner in the country remains unwavering.

Role of Citizens in National Security:

The Minister also urged Nigerians to be part of the nation’s security architecture by being vigilant and reporting suspicious individuals and activities to law enforcement agencies nearest to them. He reminded Nigerians that security is everyone’s responsibility and encouraged them to report suspicious activities and persons to the N-Alert application.
